SUPERSOFT PLASTISOL

Supersoft Transparent Process Plastisol

APPLICATION

FEATURES

SPECIFICATIONS: PLUM

GENERAL INFORMATION:

A range of Transparent Colors formulated from LEAD-FREE raw materials for direct printing on cotton and cotton/polyester garments with the softest possible hand. PLUM plastisols are 10 universally accepted basic colors (transparent) which can be used in many standard color matching systems for in-house color matching. They include four brilliant Halftone Process Colors. All colors print wet-on-wet.

PRINTING:

To maintain the original color values PLUM Colors should be printed on white grounds. Color values will change when printed on colored garments. To obtain Green, overprint Process Yellow with Process Blue. To obtain Orange, overprint Process Yellow with Process Red. To obtain Purple, overprint Process Blue with Process Red. To obtain Brown, overprint with Process Blue, Red and Yellow. (Color printing sequence can be varied.) Thus, printers may produce 7 colors from three Primary Process Colors, plus over 500 color combinations when using varying mixtures of the total range of nine colors. When using color matching systems PLUM-9080 Halftone Base is recommended where formulas call for white.

CURING:

Plastisol inks WILL NOT AIR DRY. They must be heat cured. These inks will withstand repeated washings when fully cured (the entire ink deposit must reach 300F (149C). Curing can be accomplished with the use of a conveyor dryer, flash curing unit, or simple infrared heater.

Important Note on Curing:

Proper curing is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. Poor washability of the print can generally be traced back to under-curing! It is important to understand how to set your dryer and check the temperature you are achieving AT THE INK SURFACE. FOR MORE SPECIFIC INFORMATION ON PLASTISOL INKS AND CURING AND DRYING TECHNIQUES REFER TO THE UNION INK PLASTISOLS GENERAL INFORMATION SHEET.

REDUCERS:

PLUM Plastisols are supplied Ready-for-Use. If necessary, reduce with small amounts of PLUS-9000 Reducer/Detackifier. Reduction with Mineral Spirits is not advisable as this may cause the viscosity to escalate on any ink which is stored overnight.

SCREEN FABRICS:

Colors are pigmented to give their true value (matching the color chart) when using 230T (90 metric) monofilament. Generally the range is from 110-305T (43-122 metric), but lower or higher meshes can be used. Coarser meshes will permit more ink to be deposited and consequently give stronger or deeper values and finer meshes will give lighter or weaker values.

STENCILS:

Direct Emulsion stencils such as UNION INK's INMARCOL-R or IMARCOL-W are recommended.

STORAGE:

Store plastisols at room temperature. Prolonged exposure to high temperature will cause the gelation reaction to start.

WASH-UP:

Mineral Spirits or biodegradable WASH-9900 Skreen Kleen.

WASHABILITY:

Excellent. Dry Cleaning is not recommended. Imprinted parts of garments should not be ironed.

CAUTION:

Always pre-test for curing, adhesion, crocking, opacity, washability and other specific requirements.

NOTE FOR TRANSFER PRINTING:

PLUM Plastisols can also be used to make a hot-peel heat transfer using the PLUS-9031 as a first down "trapping" clear base. The printing, curing and application specifications are the same as for ULTRASOFT PLUS Series Plastisol. See the Technical Data for PLUS-9031 Soft-Split Transfer Clear for further details.
