TRANSPUFF is a plastisol ink system designed to provide raised puff effects by the heat transfer method. The system consists of: TRANSPUFF Ink, UNILON Powder and TRANS-55 Paper. TRANSPUFF Plastisol Inks produce high-loft ink films with a flat finish and good abrasion resistance. The inks, being plastisols, will not dry in the screen. TRANSPUFF can be used on T-shirts, sweatshirts, cap fronts, cap panels and other knitted and woven cotton or cotton/polyester garments.
Best results are obtained when used with the TRANS-55 Heat Transfer Release Papers, designed for hot peeling.
Very thick stencils should be used. INMARCOL-R (multiple coats), Capillary Film Systems (such as Ulano CDF 7), or similar systems are recommended.
Best results are obtained with 62T monofilament (24 metric).
1. Print TRANSPUFF Colors on TRANS-55 Paper using flood and hit techniques to get a very heavy deposit.
2. Apply UNILON Powder over wet print, either by sprinkling or by passing the printed paper through a tray containing UNILON Powders.
3. Shake off excess powders and make certain that no powder particles remain on unprinted areas of paper.
In conveyor-type curing unit, semi-cure at temperatures not exceeding 200F (93C) for not more than 60 seconds. (When using a flash-cure units, times may vary.)
THE CURING IS VERY CRITICAL. A narrow "window" between 180-200F is required. Too low a temperature means trouble during handling of the transfer. (Test: Cured transfer should not smear under thumb.) Too high a temperature will give uneven transfer and poor adhesion. (Test: Transfer should not puff during cure.)
For more specific information on curing and drying techniques refer to the Union Ink Plastisols General Information Sheet.
Place the transfer (printed side down) on garment: transfer at 375F (190C) for 5-10 seconds at pressures from 30-40 psi. Immediately upon raising the platen, peel off transfer paper while the garment is still hot.
For an interesting "antique" effect, apply UNIFOIL to the top of a TRANSPUFF transfer (after it has been applied). The foil on top will have an antique look to it.
TRANSPUFF Inks are supplied ready-for-use and should not be reduced. If necessary use very small amounts of PLUS-9000 Reducer/Detackifier.
Mineral Spirits or biodegradable WASH-9900 Skreen Kleen.
TEST, AFTER TRANSFER, for adhesion, puff height, washability, and other specific requirements BEFORE STARTING PRODUCTION RUN. DUE TO THE CRITICAL AND PRECISE METHODS NECESSARY FOR PRIME RESULTS, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PRINTER TO CARRY OUT TESTS TO SEE IF THE ABOVE RECOMMENDED PROCEDURES AND MATERIALS ARE SATISFACTORY BEFORE EACH AND EVERY PRODUCTION RUN.
