TRANSOPAKE PLASTISOL

High Opacity Heat Transfer Ink

APPLICATION

FEATURES

SPECIFICATIONS: TROP Series

GENERAL INFORMATION:

TRANSOPAKE Plastisols are formulated for printing ULTRA-SOFT, ULTRA-OPAQUE HEAT TRANSFERS for use on black and dark colored cotton and cotton/polyester garments. The color range includes fluorescent colors known as TRANSOPAKE FIREOPAKE, which produce the most striking effects on black and darkgrounds. For direct printing fluorescents on dark garments, use Maxopake Neons. PRINTING, CURING and TRANSFER TECHNIQUES ARE OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE. These recommendations are based on both laboratory and extensive field tests carried out in conjunction with major US transfer printers. Application time, temperature and pressure will have to be adjusted according to individual shop conditions.

PRINTING:

TROP inks are designed to be printed on heat transfer paper and then applied to dark shirts, baseball caps, and other textiles with a heat transfer press. This allows reduced inventory of pre-printed garments.

Heat transfers made with TROP can be applied as a "cold-peel" where the transfer paper is allowed to cool down after application. This gives a standard rubbery feel to the print that is commonly found in sports applications and also may give the print better opacity. They can also be applied as a "hot-peel" where the transfer paper is peeled off IMMEDIATELY after the transfer is applied. When the paper is peeled hot, a portion of the ink remains on the paper and the balance stays on the shirts. Hot-peel transfers FEEL JUST LIKE A DIRECT SCREEN PRINT when made and applied correctly!

CURING OF HEAT TRANSFERS:

Prints on heat transfer papers like (TRANS-LITH, TRANS-FRENCH, and TRANS-55) should only be semi-cured. Over-cure may cause problems later on during transfer (more energy is needed to remelt a cured film than a semi-cured film). Semi-curing or drying the film only to the extent that the sheets can be handled, stacked, cut and shipped is the desired condition. The ink will semi-cure when the ink deposit reaches 250F (121C).

TRANSFER TIME AND TEMPERATURE:

REGULAR TRANSFERS: Transfer at 350F (177C) for 10-20 seconds, at 25-30 psi (medium) pressure. Allow transfer to cool completely (10-30 seconds) before stripping off the paper. HOT-PEEL ULTRASOFT TRANSFERS: Transfer at 350F (177C) for 10-15 seconds, at 25-30 psi pressure. QUICKLY STRIP THE RELEASE PAPER IMMEDIATELY AFTER RAISING THE TRANSFER PRESS PLATEN WHILE THE SHIRT REMAINS IN THE PRESS.

Application Note:

Transfer time, temperature and pressure is more critical with the TROP Series Ink. Although a lower temperature and shorter time may result in a brighter more opaque print, the adhesion of the transfer to the fabric may not be adequate.

Important Note On Curing:

Proper curing is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. Poor washability of the print can generally be traced back to under-curing of a direct print OR over-curing of a heat transfer. FOR MORE SPECIFIC INFORMATION ON PLASTISOL INKS AND CURING AND DRYING TECHNIQUES REFER TO THE UNION INK PLASTISOLS GENERAL INFORMATION SHEET.

SCREEN FABRICS:

41-63T (16-25T metric) monofilament fabrics.

STENCILS:

Direct emulsion stencils such as UNION INK's INMARCOL-R or INMARCOL-W Capillary direct film gives sharper edge definition and a thicker deposit of ink on heat transfers than direct emulsion. For hot-peel transfers use a 4 mil OR THICKER direct film, or a thicker than normal coating of direct emulsion.

REDUCERS:

TRANSOPAKE is supplied ready-for-use; if necessary, reduce with small amounts of PLUS-9000 Reducer/Detackifier. Addition of reducers will diminish opacity. Always stir well to break down false body and determine actual working viscosity prior to adding reducer.

STORAGE:

Store plastisols at room temperature. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can cause the viscosity of any plastisol to increase. If TROP Series is stored at above room temperature it may expand slightly in the can. Care should be taken when opening the can. The ink is not effected by a slight expansion.

WASH-UP:

Mineral Spirits. or biodegradable WASH-9900 Skreen Kleen.

CAUTION:

Always pre-test for proper cure, adhesion, crocking, opacity, washability or other specific requirements. ALWAYS TEST BEFORE USING IN PRODUCTION While Union Ink Company believes that the data contained herein are factual and the opinions expressed are those of qualified experts regarding the results of the tests conducted, the data are not to be taken as a warranty or representation for which Union Ink Company assumes legal responsibility.
