Features
·
Provides extremely durable adhesion
·
Easy printing directly onto garment or onto a flashed
underbase.
Union’s Caviar Bead Adhesive (PLAD-9160) is a
plastisol based clear that serves as an adhesive for adhering caviar beads to
garments. Easy to print, Caviar Bead
Adhesive can be printed directly upon the garment or on top of a flashed
underbase.
For best adhesion of the beads to
the garment, artwork should be prepared so that any line or detail in the image
should be no smaller than the size of two caviar beads place side by side. Solid coverage is best for the adhesive
screen—do not use halftone dots or fine lines.
Mesh
Use 83-110 (34-43
metric) mesh count screens stretched to your mesh manufacturer’s tensioning
recommen-dations.
Stencil
For best results a
250 micron thick film that is compatible with plastisol inks is
recommended. For more information about
the film as well as the process of adhering the film to the screen mesh and
exposure, refer to film manufacturer’s instructions or call Union at
1-800-526-0455 and ask for the paper titled “How
To Print Caviar Beads With Union’s Caviar Bead Special Effects Kit”.
Additives
None recommended.
Caviar Bead Adhesive is ready to use straight from the container.
Printing
Instructions
Prior to the print
stroke a good flood coat over the image is recommended. Care should be taken to set the off-contact
and squeegee pressure so that a nice smooth coat of adhesive sits on top of the
fabric instead of being pushed into and through the fabric. If you find that
your print technique does not allow the adhesive to sit on top of the fabric
print a plastisol underbase, flash, and then print the adhesive on top of the
underbase. In either case, a sufficient
amount of adhesive must surround the beads to provide the best adhesion.
Applying Beads
To Garments
After printing the
Caviar Bead Adhesive onto the garment or underbase there are three suggested
ways to apply the beads to the adhesive.
·
With the shirt
remaining on the platen, sprinkle the beads onto the adhesive. Bring an exposed, non-imaged screen down
over the print and squeegee once lightly to push the beads into the
adhesive. Remove the shirt from the
platen and lightly shake to remove any excess beads.
·
Remove the shirt from
the platen and lay the print face down into a tray of beads. Using a painting roller, lightly roll across
the back of the print. Again, remove
the shirt and lightly shake to remove any excess beads.
·
Remove garment from
platen and lay image side up in a shallow tray. Pour beads over the image and gently rock back and forth, allowing
excess beads to pour back into tray and cure garment.
·
Caution: Be careful to keep walk areas clear of excess beads
as they can pose a slip hazard. Excess beads may be used over
again.
Curing
Instructions
Even though Caviar
Bead Adhesive cures at 300° F (149° C ) due to the thickness of the adhesive and the caviar
beads it is necessary to increase dryer temperature, slow belt speed or a
combination of both to fully cure the design.
Clean the screens and squeegees with mineral spirits
or any screen wash designed for plastisol inks.
Garment Care
Turn
garment inside out prior to washing and wash in cold or warm water in a normal
wash cycle. Do not dry clean or iron
print area of garment.
Caution
Always
test this product for curing, adhesion, washability, elongation, opacity as
well as any other specific requirement before using in production.
