General Information

Spray Glitter Binder (PLFX-9060) has been specifically formulated to allow the spray application of glitter and crystalina flakes to garments and panels using conventional spray painting equipment. The applied coating has soft hand, excellent clarity and good adhesion to denim and similar fabrics.

Equipment

Any conventional spray painting equipment can be used – airless or air assisted, HVLP or normal. The most important aspect is the fluid tip size. For 008” x 008” Flake a 1.8mm fluid tip is required (standard for primer paints)

Mixing for Spray application

Spray Glitter Binder is a complete Plastisol ink supplied at a very low viscosity that can be mixed with other inks or Glitter Powders enabling them to be spray applied.

  1. Spray Glitter Binder can be mixed with Union Glitter ink (PAGL) in a ratio of 65/35 to give a sprayable viscosity.
  2. Mix 5 – 7% Dry Glitter Flake with Spray Glitter Binder.
  3. Mix any Colored Union Plastisol with Spray Glitter Binder in a ratio of 30/70 to give a sprayable viscosity.

In each case if an even lower viscosity is required a small percentage 2 -5% Mineral Spirits can be added. As the viscosity of these mixtures is very low settlement of pigment and flakes can take place and we recommend that only as much product as can be used in 4 hours is mixed at any one time and that the mixture is stirred regularly.

Application Techniques.

For best results using a conventional inexpensive suction feed spray paint gun an air pressure of 40 psi is adequate. The gun should be held at a distance of approximately 12” from the garment and the fan width adjusted to approximately 9” at this distance.

When spraying to give full coverage two passes should be adequate and this will ensure good adhesion of the flakes to the fabric.

If a cut out stencil or mask is used to create patterns and shapes the fan width can be reduced and the fluid flow also reduced to ensure no flooding of the image.

The Fan width can be reduced further to a pencil jet for the highlighting of seams but again the flow rate should be reduced to enable adequate control of the spray pattern.

Additives

A small quantity of Mineral Spirits (See Mixing Instructions) should be all that is necessary.

Curing Instructions

Spray Glitter Binder based applications will fully cure and withstand repeated washings when the entire ink deposit reaches 300° F (150° C).

Wash-Up

Clean the equipment with mineral spirits or any screen wash designed for plastisol inks.

Washability

Excellent. Do not dry clean. Do not iron sprayed areas.

Caution

Always test this product for curing, adhesion, crocking, opacity, washability and other specific requirements before using in production.
