PAVOPAQUE WHITE (PPPO) (Ready-For-Use)
High opacity waterbased inks.: Available in 24 standard colors approximating the 6% shade on the PAVONINE Color Chart and PAVOPAQUE WHITE (PPPO-1000).
For use on: Designed for use on dark cotton and cotton blend knit fabrics, but they may be used on light colors as is or extended to improve hand and reduce cost. For synthetic and hard fabrics like denim, use Pavostretch Opaque or Nylo-Opaque.
HAZARDOUS MATERIAL INFORMATION:
Manufactured using the safest possible, mostly natural ingredients and represents no health hazard in normal use but ingestion or prolonged contact should be avoided.
HEALTH - 1; FLAMMABILITY - 0; REACTIVITY - 0; PERSONAL PROTECTION - B
Handling: Wear waterproof gloves to protect hands from prolonged contact. Wear protective, disposable or expendable clothing when working with PAVOPAQUE INKS. If ink should come in contact with clothing, it must be washed off immediately with water or a solution of water and an all purpose cleaner to prevent permanent staining.
Creating High Opacity Colors:
High opacity medium strength colors similar to the 2% level on the PAVONINE Color Chart can be created by adding PAVOPAQUE WHITE to PAVOPAQUE COLORS.
High opacity pastel colors similar to the 0.2% level on the PAVONINE Color Chart can be created by adding PAVOPAQUE Colors to PAVOPAQUE WHITE.
Custom Colors can be created by mixing PAVOPAQUE COLORS or by shifting the shade of PAVOPAQUE COLORS with PAVONINE PIGMENTS.
Extending Pavopaque Inks: When used on light or medium color garments, PAVOPAQUE INKS can be extended to soften hand and reduce cost and pick up.
Strong medium opacity colors can be extended with up to equal parts PAVOCLEAR-B or PAVOCLEAR-C and still approximate the 6% level on the PAVONINE Color Chart, but colors will be brighter and cleaner.
Medium Strength Translucent Colors similar to the 2% level on the PAVONINE Color Chart, but brighter and cleaner, can be created by extending 1 part PAVOPAQUE INK with 4 parts PAVOCLEAR-B or PAVOCLEAR-C.
Pastel Transparent Colors similar to the 0.2% level on the PAVONINE Color Chart can be created by adding a little PAVOPAQUE INK to PAVOCLEAR-B or PAVOCLEAR-C. (About 1 part ink to 60 parts extender.)
Using PAVOPAQUE INKS:
Stencil: Water resistant. Do not under expose.
Screen Meshes: 86 to 156 recommended. Select meshes that allow a deposit sufficient to coat individual threads of the garment without welding them together.
Squeegee: Soft (60 durometer) recommended.
Printing: Use minimum pressure required and a tightly stretched screen that is barely off contact for best results. When printing wet-on-wet, colors lacking hiding power should be printed last, PRESS PRESSED or flashed. In long runs, build up of color can occur on subsequent screens when printing wet-on-wet. As the build up does not tend to start mashing out and clogging image areas, there is no need to worry about it unless the deposit becomes thick enough to increase off contact distance to the point that printing is effected. If this happens it is often possible to scrape the build up off with a sharp spatula. If necessary, wipe build up off with a damp sponge while avoiding contamination of ink in the screen.
Enhancing Hold Out ( Brightness) : A slight blotchy appearance of a Pavopaque print is the result of differences in absorbency and density of the fabric being printed and is more noticeable when printing colors lacking hiding power such as yellows and reds. Although it is impossible to eliminate the effect entirely it can be minimized by:
1. Mixing in about 1.5 % PAVASSIST 1733 ANTI WICKING AGENT
AND / OR
2. Mixing in the maximum amount of super white (S01) pigment possible without killing the color.
Reduction: If required to enhance printability or improve penetration and thus adhesion, reduce with water. Adhesion of a properly cured print can be checked by scratching a print laid on a soft surface (your palm) with your fingernail. A properly cured print should not scratch off easily.
Open Time: Excellent open time for a high opacity ink. To avoid drying in the screen during continuous printing, flood heavily between impressions and keep a gloss on the ink in the screen by misting with water. Remove ink from the image area and clean the area with a damp sponge prior to work stoppages of a few minutes or less. Remove ink from the screen, place in a sealed container and clean the screen with a wet sponge prior to stoppages of over a few minutes. In extremely hot dry conditions up to 6% PAVASSIST SLOW retarder may be added if required.
Drying: Requires 90 seconds or more at 320°F+ in an oven with good airflow to insure washability. 1% to 2% PAVAFIX A or PAVAFIX C will improve washability if adequate dryer is not available. Air dried prints can be set by ironing. IT IS THE PRINTERS RESPONSIBILITY TO TEST TO MAKE SURE ADEQUATE WASHABILITY IS BEING ACHIEVED!
Shelf Life: Minimum of 2 year in a tightly sealed container kept in a cool place but not allowed to freeze. Storage at above will shorten shelf life significantly. If viscosity should increase during long term storage add water and stir. If separation occurs stir until homogeneous. If allowed to dry out dispose of as solid non hazardous waste.
