PAVOCLEAR INK
Truly ready for use low VOC transparent waterbase colors that requires no additional retarder to remain open in the screen for extended periods and no additive to reduce crocking. Excellent washfastness and crock resistance. Available in all 72 standard colors and 8 fluorescent colors shown on the current Pavonine color chart and 4 process colors.
FOR USE ON: White or very pastel t-shirts or fleece. Can be used on terry cloth if reduced substantially with water. (See reduction below.)
HAZARDOUS MATERIAL INFORMATION: Represents no health hazard in normal use.
HEALTH - 1; FLAMMABILITY - 0; REACTIVITY - 0; PERSONAL PROTECTION - B
REDUCTION: Use water or up to 2% Pavassist Smooth. As much as 33% water (1 cup water / 2 cups ink by volume) is required for proper penetration of terry cloth towels or garments.
LETTING DOWN COLORS: Lighter shades of any color can be created by letting down with PAVOCLEAR EXTENDER. A strong (6%) color can be let down to a medium (2%) color by mixing two parts Pavoclear Extender with one part ink. Pastel (0.2%) colors can be created by mixing one part strong (6%) color with 29 parts Pavoclear Extender.
COST CUTTING TIP: Pavoclear inks are so over engineered that it is possible to cut strong colors with up to equal parts of thickened water and still produce medium strength colors that wash and resist crock better than most other ready for use inks including our own old Pavonine inks. Thickened water is a mixture of 2.5% THEZ thickener and water mixed at high speed. Don't try this trick with other inks!
STENCIL: Water resistant emulsion ( preferably with a hardener). Do not under expose. If the relative humidity in the screen drying room exceeds 40% use of a dehumidifier or drying cabinet will be required.
MESH: Polyester monofilament meshes in the 86 range should be used when printing terry cloth towels. For normal use meshes in the 156 to 230 range are recommended. Use 330 mesh for 4 color process.
SQUEEGEE: Soft to medium in the 60 to 70 range.
ADDITIVES: A fraction of a % Pavassist PR 1733 may be added to eliminate wicking. Pavassist Smooth may be used for reduction (see above) and Pavassist Fix A may be used to enhance washability (see DRYING AND SETTING below). Use of other additives is not recommended!
PRINT TECHNIQUE: Very little squeegee pressure is required and there is no drag on the squeegee so it can be printed by hand for extended periods without wearing the printer out. Minimum off contact distance is recommended but it prints well on contact.. Keep squeegee speed fast enough to force ink in far enough to cover the sides of individual threads.
KEEPING SCREENS OPEN: Keep enough ink in the screen to flood the image area heavily ( 1/16 to 1/8th inch of ink ) between impressions. Avoid breezes blowing directly on screens and gloss the ink in the screen with a mist of water prior to brief work stoppages and PAVOCLEAR INK can be printed continuously with no drying in the screen. Except in very dry conditions which may require covering the screen with a plastic bag, it should be possible to flood, mist and leave the ink in the screen for up to an hour. Although it's possible to flood, gloss, bag and keep ink in the screen overnight, it's best to remove it and clean screens in place with wet sponges or rags.
CLEAN UP: Water or water + a little all purpose cleaner with ammonia is usually all that is required. A glass cleaner with ammonia or similar product will remove badly dried in ink and stains.
DRYING AND SETTING: A minimum of 90 sec. in a dryer with good airflow at 320°F should be sufficient to set the print. If proper oven conditions can not be achieved or if the prints are to be air dried, 1.5% PAVAFIX A or Union Ink ATEX- 9120/UNDY-9020 should insure adequate washfastness after 48 hours at temperatures above 60°F.
Shelf Life: 2 years if kept tightly closed and in a cool area.
