HAZARDOUS MATERIAL INFORMATION: Components do not meet current definition of carcinogens 29 CFR 1910.1200. May contain up to 3% ammonia and in the case of fluorescent colors less than 0.1% formaldehyde. Prolonged contact and inhalation of fumes should be avoided but there are no known health hazards resulting from normal use. Label should read:
HEALTH - 1, FLAMMABILITY - 0 (or 1), REACTIVITY - 0, PERSONAL PROTECTION-B
Mixing: Stir into appropriate base until homogeneous. High speed blending not required and in fact may effect viscosity of some opaque bases. Scrape pigment off stirring instrument and sides of container a few times during mixing so that it can be evenly dispersed..
MAKING STANDARD TRANSPARENT PAVONINE COLORS
Although recommendations for mixing by volume are given, various pigments have different densities so it is best to measure by weight if colors have to be exact.
Strong standard shades similar to the 6% level on the PAVONINE color chart can be produced by mixing 6% pigment with 94% transparent base. By volume that is approximately 1 tablespoon pigment to a cup of base or 1 cup pigment to a gallon of transparent (PACLC or PACLB) base.
Medium standard shades similar to the 2% level on the PAVONINE color chart can be produced by mixing 2% pigment with 98% transparent base. By volume that is approximately 1 teaspoon full pigment to a cup of base or 1/3 cup pigment to a gallon of transparent (PACLC or PACLB) base.
Pastel standard shades similar to the 0.2% level on the PAVONINE color chart can be produced by mixing 0.2% Pigment with 99.8% transparent base. By volume that is 1 approximately 1 teaspoon full pigment to 2.5 quarts of transparent (PACLC or PACLB) base.
Fluorescent shades similar to those shown on the PAVONINE color chart can be produced be adding 18% Fluorescent pigment to 88% PAVOCLEAR INK EXTENDER (PACLC), PAVOCLEAR - B (PACLB), PAVOSTRETCH (PASTCH), SPARKLETONE (PASP) or other appropriate transparent base. By volume that is 3 tablespoons pigment to 1 cup of transparent base or 3 cups pigment to 1 gallon of base.
MATCHING STANDARD TRANSPARENT COLORS
Intermediate shades between two colors on the Pavonine color chart can be created by mixing the two colors and maintaining the same total %.
Intermediate intensity between two strengths shown on the Pavonine color chart can be created by using a pigment % between those shown.
New Pavonine shades can be created by mixing two or more Pavonine Pigments. Please note that some colors are very strong and can overwhelm others. For instance, only one part Blueberry in 19 parts Buttercup makes Spring Green.
Matching colors: Almost any standard color can be created from the following pigments:
Matching Yellow (S11)* Matching Warm Red (S20C)* Ruby Red (S24)*
Matching Rhodamine (S27B)* Matching Violet (S295)* Emerald Green (S40)*
Blueberry (Matching) (S34)* Elec. Pink (F24)* Sky Blue (S36A)*
Matching Black (S73)
Matching opaque colors: Strong shades similar to the 6% level on the Pavonine color chart may be made by mixing approximately 12 % pigment with 88% PAVOPAQUE or PAVOSTRETCH OPAQUE base. 0.5 to 1% PR1733 may be added to brighten colors if required. Medium or pastel shades can be created by letting down strong shades with PAVOPAQUE WHITE or PAVOSTRETCH WHITE. We offer no program for matching opaque colors but mixtures of pure pigments in proportions recommended for matching transparent colors less transparent base can be added to an opaque base in proportion of 12 % pigment to 88% Opaque base and then let down with Pavopaque White of the same series as the opaque base.
Creating discharge colors: Discharge inks are transparent so underlaying garment color will effect shade. As garments (especially black ones) vary greatly in dischargeability, process variations will effect colors and the discharge reaction will effect some pigments. It is best to avoid exact matches when working with discharge. See the UNDERSTANDING DISCHARGE booklet for additional information.
STORAGE AND HANDLING OF PIGMENTS:
Will stain garments accidently contaminated so protective clothing is recommended. Will dry out unless kept in a tightly sealed container. PAVONINE pigments are packed in a wide mouth container so that they can be remixed if settling occurs. As these containers do not pour neatly we suggest that small quantities be dipped out of containers with a spoon or ladle. If poured contamination on threads should be wiped off prior to closing to insure ease of reopening and to avoid contaminating future batches with dry flakes of pigment that may not dissolve. Pigments should be stirred prior to using.
SHELF LIFE: 2 years if kept tightly sealed and in a cool place but not allowed to freeze.
